Prompt : Write a fic in which a character has Bipolar Disorder (canon or not canon)
Chronology : Post-canon
Headcanons : Bipolar!Plankton, they're both humanoids
Plankton would regularly flipflop between emotions as far back as Karen could remember.
One day, he'd be hyper and excited and energetic and productive and slightly delusional and, the next, he'd be barely able to get out of bed in the morning.
It had been a bit jarring to Karen at first, how wildly different he'd be one week compared to the next, but she eventually learned how to handle it. Her love for him went far past whatever episodes he had.
This most recent fit of mania had almost resulted in the complete destruction of Bikini Bottom.
Now, she'd aided in the plan, as she always did. Manic or not, the dude was fucking evil and so was she. It's part of what helped them get along so well.
After Sandy, Patrick, and SpongeBob thwarted his plan, however, this seemed to switch his brain off of mania and into depression. The next day after the best day ever, he'd woken up fairly early but hadn't moved from his resting place since he did.
"Sheldon?" Karen said cautiously. Plankton just groaned slightly, curling further into himself. Karen frowned and walked over, sitting down next to him. "Sheldon, hey"
"What do you want?"
"Are you okay?" she asked and that's when the man broke down in tears. She picked him up and held him in her arms, rubbing his back gently. "It's okay" she told him. "You're okay"
"I failed..."
"You didn't" she shook her head. "Something came up that you couldn't have foreseen" she reasoned. "You didn't fail"
"I'm sorry"
"Shhhh" she shushed. "No apologies, okay? I love you"
...
"Yeah, I love you too"
