Prompt : Character with chronic pain has a flare-up in their leg(s)
Chronology : Post-canon AU where all the kids survive
Headcanon : Ricky uses ASL
Ricky's legs had been getting worse. Getting up in the morning was growing harder and harder and he knew it wouldn't be long before he would need to transition to a wheelchair.
However, the process of getting a wheelchair wasn't instant, so he still needed to rely on his forearm crutches for a little while even as his legs grew less and less reliable.
The result of this was one of the worst pain flare-ups of his entire life, fully setting in right as he sat down for choir rehearsal. Thankfully for him, he was always the first person there, as he was let out of his last class early due to how much longer it took for him to get around, so no one saw the exact moment he burst into tears, but it wasn't long before someone found him.
It was Noel who found him sitting there, catatonically crying from the searing sensation in his legs.
"Hey, woah" Noel asked, dropping his bag by his chair and quickly running to Ricky's side. "What happened?"
'Hurts' Ricky signed weakly. Noel frowned.
"What hurts?"
'Hurts' Ricky repeated before pointing at his legs. Noel sighed. 'It hurts so bad'
"I'm sorry, Rick" Noel told him. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
'There's a bottle of ibuprofen in my backpack' Ricky signed, gesturing to his backpack. 'And I'm definitely not gonna be able to stand during rehearsal, so if you could explain to Ocean, then that'd be appreciated'
"You got it" Noel smiled earnestly before leaning down to get the pills for the disabled boy. "Do you want me to drive you home?"
'That'd be nice if it's no problem'
"I offered" Noel laughed. Ricky managed a small grin in return. "Here" he held up the pills. "Do you want water, or-"
'I can take them dry' Ricky dismissed before greedily taking the pills. They tasted salty on his tongue but the idea of relief just on the horizon made up for it. 'Thank you'
"Of course, bud"
