Warning : Ocean being a little ableist
Prompt : Write a fic in which an Autistic character is accommodated in some way
Chronology : Post-canon AU where the kids all survive the crash
Headcanons : Autistic!Jane, Ocean leads the choir since Father Marcus is still dead, they all know some ASL for when Ricky's AAC device isn't available for whatever reason, Jane is an orphan
Jane wasn't singing and Ocean was furious.
See, Jane had gone nonverbal earlier in the day due to a lot of chaos in her English class. She'd messaged Mischa when it happened just so someone could confirm for her if needed and she was suddenly very glad she did because Ocean was ruthless.
"Our next performance is in two weeks!" Ocean shouted, exasperated. Jane winced, wanting to cry because she didn't know what she could do. It's not like she was doing it on purpose! She just couldn't use her voice. "It really is selfish"
"Stop being asshole" Mischa spoke up. "She cannot speak right now"
"Oh, and why is that?" Ocean asked, still clearly annoyed. "I know she's not sick. There's no excuse for this kind of behavior"
Jane didn't know what to do. Ocean had never been this outwardly hostile towards her and god, she sounded like the people at the orphanage and suddenly Jane was on her feet, fleeing the choir room. She faintly heard Mischa cursing out Ocean but she didn't even care at that point she just needed to get out of there.
She was out in the hall of the music building, curled up in a ball against the wall with a blank expression on her face when suddenly the choir room door opened again. She looked up to see the Ukrainian baritone staring at her. She waved and he approached.
"I'm sorry Ocean is being bitch" he said quietly. Jane just shrugged. "I took her aside to explain more. Some swear words were said- From me, not her" he chuckled. "For such asshole, she doesn't curse most of time"
'Thank you' Jane signed. They all knew a bit of sign language for Ricky's sake, as he'd have to resort to ASL whenever he didn't have his AAC device available for whatever reason.
"Don't sweat it" Mischa smiled. "I'm always happy to stick up for friend"
