Original request : heyhey!! i love your fics, and would love to see some constance and ricky content!!! ive always thought they could be good friend if only they. spoke. no pressure at all ofc!
Chronology : Post-canon AU where they all survive
Headcanons : Ricky in a wheelchair, Ricky uses an AAC device
Ricky was always cautious of anyone deemed "nice"
"Nice" people oftentimes treated him like a child and would get called "nice" by those around just for interacting with him at all. At the end of the day, he decided not to let himself be too bothered by it because that was just his normal, but it still gave him pause when he found out that the child deemed "nicest girl in town" was the Saint Cassian Chamber Choir's star alto.
Admittedly, they never really spoke prior to the Cyclone accident, but he didn't hold that against her specifically. No one in the choir talked to him except for Ocean, who, like everyone else at school, treated him like a toddler. However, after the near-death experience and subsequent music competition in Karnak's limbo, everyone was much closer and the others would talk to him.
Still, he and Constance barely exchanged a word. They were both content with this, to be clear. It's not like they had anything against each other and they got along fine in group settings, they just generally didn't interact outside of that.
One day, after a particularly late choir rehearsal, they found themselves alone together, the last two choir kids to be picked up by their parents. Ricky had been content with the idea of waiting in silence, but Constance seemingly had other plans.
"So, Ricky" the girl started awkwardly. The disabled boy looked over at her with a raised eyebrow, silently urging her to continue. "How have classes been going?"
'I'm passing all of them except math' he typed into the small screen attached to the arm of his wheelchair. An automated voice spoke for him. 'I forgot to turn in some homework, so I'm falling behind in that class' he explained. 'What about you?'
"Passing" Constance nodded. She'd always solidly been a C and B kind of student, and she was okay with that. She didn't need to be the best student in town to be happy with herself. "Are you excited for our next choir concert?"
'I guess' Ricky shrugged alongside the voice. 'It's not like I can use my voice anyway'
"For the record, I thought your voice was really nice when we were all..." she swallowed. "Y'know"
'Really?'
"Really"
'Oh' Ricky typed and there was a brief silence in the air, though this one was not uncomfortable for either of them. 'Thank you, Constance'
The girl just smiled and nodded.
