Puck felt like shit.
See, he had been goofing off a little bit more than usual, and that led to him doing said tomfoolery in an unfamiliar part of the woods. The downside to being in an unfamiliar part of the woods was that the magic in the area was foreign. Different. Outside of their control and a shock to their senses. Magic that they apparently weren't compatible with... And that was why he was now hunched over a rock, desperately hoping that he didn't throw up.
He hated throwing up. It stressed them out to no avail, and the idea of so much fluid and undigested food leaving their system in such a painful way without their control? Fucking forget it. He didn't understand how humans did it. Humans were much more susceptible to such feelings due to their weaker immune systems. Hell, just give a human a smell they don't like and they'll gag. Fairies were far more immune to such things, but it still happened. Maybe that's why he was so afraid of it. Maybe the reason it scared him so much was because it was so rare for his kind.
Not that it fucking mattered. He was still hunched over a rock.
Without realizing it, they had sent out a mental signal. This was a rare thing to actually happen, as it took very extreme distress for a fairy to release such a signal but, apparently, his fear over losing his breakfast was powerful enough to trigger it, whether or not he wanted to. Not that they could focus on that when their stomach was twisting and turning in such a way, their heart going a mile a minute as their panic only added to the feeling. In fact, he was so caught up in his haze of trying not to vomit that he didn't notice the tall, elegant figure coming up behind him.
It was Oberon, who was biting back several strongly worded comments about how he got his cloak dirty following the signal. Apparently, Titania had been close enough to sense the signal, but she felt woefully unqualified to help Puck with his apparent distress, so she sent Peaseblossom to find Oberon. He would be far more equipped to handle the situation, as he knew the smaller fairy far better (even to the point where Titania questioned if the two's relationship was 100% platonic).
"Puck" the king said, still in a stern tone as he usually spoke to the other fairy in such a tone, but there was an almost uncharacteristic gentleness to it. He wasn't there to scold them, no. He was there in an attempt to help, even if he didn't entirely understand their aversion to such a simple act. It's not like he particularly loved the feeling of nausea himself but, to him, it was always a sort of reassurance that his immune system had his back. That he was getting rid of the bad. Puck was the opposite.
"One of Titania- Woah" he trailed off, feeling the nausea from the unfamiliar magic hit him as well. Thankfully, it was far more manageable than it was for Puck, as he was a far stronger fairy when it came to the physical. So the same feeling could cripple a smaller fairy like Puck, while leaving him only a little bit uncomfortable. "One of Titania's little servants said you were distressed" he continued, approaching cautiously. "Mind explaining?"
"I- I... Fuck" Puck tried to mutter a response, but the act of trying to use his vocal cords just triggered the nausea further, causing him to heave once. Thankfully for him, nothing came up, but he knew it probably wouldn't be long before it did. Oberon was annoyed by the lack of a proper response, but it was very easy to piece together the situation. He took a deep breath and sat down, cursing himself for letting grass get on his cloak as he patted his lap.
"Come here, Puck" he said firmly, and the other fairy was in no position to argue as they sunk to the ground and crawled into the king's lap. They closed their eyes, desperately praying for the feeling to go away as they stifled a few instinctive gags. "Just breathe" Oberon whispered, not wanting to overwhelm the smaller fairy more. That would be horrifically inefficient, after all. "Hyperventilating is only adding to the feeling, so I need you to try and focus on slowing your breathing"
"I can- I can't" Puck replied, voice a bit desperate as he fought to keep himself from heaving. Even with the one he admired holding him so closely, this was his worst nightmare.
"You can" Oberon insisted, annoyance bleeding through into his tone, but Puck was far too panicked to notice. "I promise the feeling will subside a bit if you just calm down" the king continued. "Just follow my breathing, yes?" A nod. "Good. That is probably the quickest way for us to get this over with"
Inhale...
Exhale...
Inhale...
Exhale...
Within a few minutes of breathing, Puck's panic had in fact subsided and the nausea went with it, both feelings being only mild. Puck was very grateful to the bigger fairy for having helped in such a way, but they were far too exhausted to voice their thanks. No matter. He could just cook Oberon's meals extra carefully for a while, and maybe even stay out of trouble. Little things like that to make the king know he was appreciated.
"Now" Oberon said, standing and picking up the other fairy into his arms. "Let's get out of here"
