Prompt : Travel
Chronology : Post-canon
Background relationship : Tony/Alice (mentioned)
Sometimes, Tony missed the earlier days of his life, where he would just travel around and see the sights of the world. Before Cambridge, before Kirby & Co.
Everything was just so simple back then. He wondered if things would ever feel simple again.
After he and Alice got married, he spent more and more time in the Vanderhof-Sycamore-Carmichael household, getting to know the different, strange residents rather well.
He especially got close with Martin who, despite being a bit awkward at times, had some really interesting insight on the world around him.
Having given up business at the ripe age of fourty, the man had been kicking along for almost half of his lifespan without a care in the world.
All of his concerns were rather minor, and he wasn't ever too affected by the chaos around him. Even when the fireworks all blew up and the whole family (along with the Kirby's) got arrested, he just seemed a bit annoyed.
Tony envied him.
"You know..." Tony started, sitting down by the old man, who had just been peacefully looking through his stamps collection. Martin closed the book, tucked it under his chair, and redirected his attention to the young man. "I kind of miss the days when I traveled around"
"Why not start again?"
"Oh, I don't know" Tony sighed. "I'd hate to leave Alice all alone without me while I'm off seeing the world again"
"Why not take her with?" Martin tilted his head in curiosity. "You've both got plenty of money to spare and vacation time stored up"
"That... Is true, but-"
"Tony" Martin said in a firm, warm voice, tilting his head downward slightly as he looked at his grandson-in-law. "You want to see the world, so see it, and take Alice with you" he urged. "You've earned it"
"Yeah..." Tony thought for a moment. "You know what, Grandpa? You're right"
"I always am"
