Prompt : Loved Ones Chronology : Post-canon
Generally, when people talked about their loved ones, they seemed to be referring to their family. Their mother, their father, their sisters and brothers, their dog, their grandparents, a white picket fence, and leafy-green, filling dinners. The works.
To most of the newsies, family was a far-off thought, the bulk of them having been orphaned in one way or another. The ones who still had their parents, like Les and David, were few and far between and generally envied by their coworkers.
To Jack, his family was the newsies. He was like a big brother to a lot of them, having helped so many of them work their way up through the ranks of being able to deliver more and more newspapers per day. He'd been one of the leaders of the strike. Everyone looked up to him.
After the strike, he realized that the vague idea of Santa Fe he'd been dreaming about for years was pointless. Sure, it was probably more beautiful and glamorous than New York, but what was the point if his true loved ones, the newsies, weren't there with him?
