Prompt : "I'm fine"
Chronology : Pre-TPTGW
Headcanon : Chronically Ill!Dennis
Dennis didn't feel well. Frankly, he hadn't been feeling well for a good few days, but there wasn't really anything he could do about that. Sure, he could tell people- Which he did, to some extent (though they didn't know the true severity of how unwell he felt)- But what was the point? He didn't want them to worry.
His (yet to be specifically identified because his doctors didn't take him seriously) chronic illness had been flaring up, likely due to stress, and left him feeling incredibly sick and weak. Whenever he would stand up, he'd nearly faint, and walking around was a constant battle of trying not to fall over or pass out.
On top of that, he seemed to be coming down with something, though whether it was a stress response or an actual sickness was beyond him. His sinuses were suddenly rather congested and he had a persistent, nasty cough that left his throat raw and his voice much froggier than normal.
Still, he didn't say anything. He could deal with this on his own. He'd always dealt with everything on his own before. This was no different- Just another thing he had to grin and bear through. Really, he wanted nothing more than to lay in his bed all day, comfy under his blankets and occasionally downing doses of DayQuil, but he knew that wasn't in the cards.
After all, that evening, the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society would be putting on their opening production of A Murder at Haversham Manor, in which Dennis played a very important supporting role- Perkins, the butler. He had to endure through it and not cause any additional stress for his fellow actors or the tech by letting them in on the fact that he felt atrocious.
Right before the production was to start and while everyone was running around backstage to get the last few things in order before the production began, Robert looked over at him. The two were standing behind a stage door, ready to enter for the beginning of the play. However, Robert couldn't help but notice Dennis' eyes fluttering and the way his body wavered for a moment, as though trying to decide whether or not to keep him upright.
"Hey, are you alright?" the taller of the two men asked. Dennis looked up at him and forced on a smile, trying to ignore the way that his vision was cutting in and out and how shaky his legs were underneath him. He wouldn't ruin this for Robert, for anyone.
