Chronology : Post-canon
Background relationship : Roxie/Amos (past)
Headcanons : Amos has chronic pain, Autistic!Amos
Author's note : I have so many favorite ships so to make this an easy decision I just picked who's probably my favorite character at the moment at least (Amos Hart) and now here we are lol
After the divorce with Roxie, Amos had not expected himself to end up in a somewhat committed relationship with her sleazy lawyer, of all people, but here he was. To his surprise, Billy was actually pretty caring when it came to personal relationships. Amos supposed there was some truth to Billy's 'All I care about is love!' slogan, after all (though it still didn't apply to his money-hungry business practices).
Amos didn't immediately let Billy in on his quirks for fear of the man acting burdened or pissed off like Roxie always did, but he eventually found himself trusting the man enough to drop his guard. He started letting out his weird habits and fidgets and was met with kindness, which he certainly hadn't been expecting. Billy still seemed to care for him despite his 'mental handicap' (as most deemed it at the time).
After that, he eventually broke down and also let Billy know about his persistent, constant back pain. He expected this to be the end of things. Sure, Billy could put up with his odd behaviors, but would he really also be okay with the pain thing, too? Lord knows just half the intensity of one of those was too much for Roxie. Billy was probably fed up with him, now...
Yet, again, Amos was only met with genuine kindness. He didn't complain, of course. No, he instead just kissed his boyfriend and thanked him for being understanding. Billy chuckled and reminded him that he wasn't a client. He actually did care, no strings attached. Amos told him he knew that and that he was still just paranoid because of Roxie. Billy told him that made sense and that Roxie was an awful person.
One evening, Amos was having a particularly bad flare-up in his back, brought along by his work at the garage. When Billy came home, he found Amos sitting very rigidly on the couch, tears brimming at the edge of his eyes from the pain. Billy frowned. Something was definitely wrong.
"Hey, Hart" he said, putting up his coat and hat and sitting next to Amos on the couch. Amos was still in his work clothes. "What's going on? Overwhelmed?"
"No, sorry" Amos shook his head. "My back just hurts really bad" he whimpered pathetically. Billy nodded and hummed in consideration for a moment before he stood up. This was it. He was leaving. He was finally sick of how much was wrong with Amos.
A moment later, he returned with a bottle of Coca-Cola and a blanket. "Drink this" Billy said, handing Amos the coke- The most medically helpful thing around, of course. Amos quickly downed the whole thing (he was way thirstier than he'd realized) and then suppressed a burp to the best of his ability (it didn't work). Billy just laughed it off and then helped Amos into a lying position on the couch. Amos breathed out a sigh of relief as the pressure came off his back and redistributed more evenly. Billy then laid the blanket over him. "I'll work on dinner. You just rest, okay?"
"Are you sure?" Amos asked, feeling guilty. Billy leaned down and kissed him on the cheek.
"I wouldn't say it if I wasn't, Hart"
"Thank you"
"Yeah, yeah"
