Chronology : Pre-canon
Headcanons : FTM!Dennis, Nonbinary!Annie
Dennis had been wearing his binder all day- Already not a great decision. He hadn't taken any breaks in the past 16 hours and it was starting to weigh on his ribs a bit. However, even as he felt the telltale signs of Hey, I've been wearing my binder for too long, he kept it on. It was a dress rehearsal for The Murder At Haversham Manor, so he couldn't really take it off.
When the rehearsal was over, in a serious lapse of judgment, he ran to Annie's car so they could go back to their apartment together.
As soon as he sat down in the car, he realized his mistake. The pain in his ribs shot up tenfold, and his breathing was short and labored. Annie got in on the driver's side and immediately grew concerned when they saw their friend's state. "What is wrong?"
"Binder" Dennis responded immediately, the second syllable of the word coming out in a wheezy breath. Annie's eyes widened at this.
"Take it off" they demanded. "Right now"
"Annie-"
"I have a hoodie in the back seat you can wear" they assured him, hoping that would help ease his dysphoria. "But, you are taking that shit off right now"
Dennis reluctantly nodded, found the oversized hoodie in the backseat, and changed. Annie respectfully kept their head turned away until they felt a tap on their shoulder. They looked over to see Dennis with a timid expression, hunched over in the darkly colored hoodie and holding the binder in his hand. Annie just gave him a nod of approval, waited for him to buckle up, and went back home.
Concerningly, the pain and the shortness of breath hadn't gone down by the time they got back home, leaving Annie to wonder if he'd caused any real damage to his ribs.
"Dennis, I think you need to go to the ER"
"No, it's fine" he dismissed. Annie rolled their eyes.
"It's not" they insisted. "It doesn't need to be right now cause I know you're tired but, if you're still in pain tomorrow, I am taking you to the ER, okay?"
"Alright, fine"
"I love you"
"Yeah, yeah, I love you too, asshole"
