Full title : An Ounce Of Rest For The Most Overworked Servant
Chronology : Post-canon
Headcanons : All of the people who were cursed got some sort of permanent physical effect on their human form after the curse was broken, they all also got PTSD from it, Cogsworth got chronic pain
Even though they were all human again, everyone's time as objects (or a beast, in Adam's case) left lingering physical and mental effects.
On top of the PTSD they'd all acquired from such a stressful situation, everyone found that their human forms were somehow affected based on whatever they'd been stuck as for so many years- Lumiere had hot flashes, Chip and his mother's bones had become more fragile, Babette's skin was extra sensitive, Adam had to shave constantly, Madame de la Grande Bouche had scars on her chest from where her drawers had been, and Cogsworth?
His time as a clock had made his whole body stiff and achy.
One particular evening, it was especially painful. His entire back seared and it felt as if someone was hacking at his spine with a hammer. Lumiere saw him sitting down (which he hardly ever allowed himself to do since he was constantly working) and decided to check on him.
"Bonjour, my timekeeping friend" he greeted, getting a withering glare in response. "You seem uncomfortable" he continued, uncaring of Cogsworth's annoyance. "What is the matter?"
"My back hurts" Cogsworth answered truthfully, though he decided it would be best to leave out the details of just how bad it was. "What are you supposed to be doing right now?"
"Oh, I already got done with everything the master asked me to do today" Lumiere dismissed, getting a sigh from the other servant. "Any way I can help out with the pain?"
"Rip my spine out?"
"I'm afraid I can't do that" Lumiere chuckled. A moment of blissful silence passed before he seemed to get an idea. "Would lying down help?"
"Lumiere, it is the middle of the day" Cogsworth replied flatly. "I'm not lying down"
"That wasn't my question" Lumiere replied with a smug smile. Cogsworth went quiet. "You work constantly, my friend" the slender servant continued. "You deserve rest, especially if you are in pain"
"You're not gonna drop this, are you?"
"Nope" Lumiere confirmed, earning a groan from the other man. "Can you make your way to your quarters on your own or do you need me to carry you?"
"You are not carrying me" Cogsworth told him firmly, shakily getting to his feet. His balance faltered, but Lumiere caught him. Cogsworth sighed before mending his earlier statement. "I am going to need some help, though"
"Of course"
Cogsworth lied down in bed, exhaling contently as the new position took some of the pressure off of his lower back. Lumiere smiled, glad to see his fellow servant relaxing for once in his life.
"Would you like me to bring you bread and tea?" he asked the shorter man. "Or would you like me to leave you alone?"
"Actually" Cogsworth started. "Could you stay here?"
Lumiere smiled warmly and silently got in bed next to the butler.
