Chronology : Post-canon AU (everyone survives the Cyclone accident)
Background relationships : Noel/Mischa, Mischa/Talia (past)
Headcanons : Autistic!Ricky, Autistic!Jane, they all use ASL for Ricky's sake, Ricky uses a wheelchair, Noel has ADHD, Dyslexic!Mischa
It had been a week since they all got their second chance at life and things were beginning to go back to normal. With no one in charge of the choir, Ocean naturally took up that role, much to Noel's dismay. He got back into his shitty job at Taco Bell and had begun a romantic relationship with Mischa (Talia had moved on quickly after his "death"). Constance was getting more open about how she felt and Jane (Penny? Savannah?) was beginning to be integrated into their group.
Ricky, who had once again lost his voice and was now wheelchair-bound from his ride injuries, wheeled off into one of the small practice rooms when he thought no one was paying attention. Ocean and Noel were ass-deep in an argument, Mischa frantically trying to protect his new boyfriend from criticism, and Constance trying to break up all the fighting. The only person who even noticed Ricky leave was Jane.
She got up and followed him, her head tilted in curiosity. Just like with Ricky, no one noticed her departure, which she figured was probably for the better if Ricky was distancing himself from them.
She nudged open the door enough to see him. "Is it okay if I come in here?" she asked him, getting a tense nod in response. So, she entered the practice room and quietly shut the door behind her, sitting down on the small stool in front of the piano that sat in there. "What is wrong?"
'Overwhelmed' Ricky signed simply. Jane nodded in understanding. It was one of the things they bonded over- Their shared difference from the rest of the group. Sure, Noel had ADHD and Mischa was dyslexic no matter what language he was reading in, but those weren't quite the same. They didn't get it, not the way that Ricky and Jane got it. It made it easier for the two of them to get along since they never had to worry too much about missing unspoken social cues or having to explain why they were stressed. 'I'll be fine in a moment. They were just being pretty loud'
"Would you like me to stay in here?"
'Yes' Ricky signed in confirmation, almost desperately. Truly speaking, he didn't want to be alone. Not if Jane was the one sitting with him. Her presence always helped calm him down, even when she was a freaky doll in the afterlife. She was just so peaceful and rarely got upset over things. It was a nice change from the chaos of the other chorus members. 'Thank you, Savannah'
"Of course"
