Chronology : Post-canon
Background relationship : Amos/Roxie (past)
Headcanon : Autistic!Amos
Things had been hard ever since Amos and Roxie got divorced.
Well, hard for Amos, at least.
Roxie couldn't care less about the split. No, it was something she's secretly wanted for a very long time, so she had no reservations about it. But, Amos? He still loved Roxie, which made it all the more painful to realize that she wanted nothing to do with him.
She'd moved out of their small home, instead taking to hotel surfing with Velma, her new business partner, as they toured their new show. This left Amos alone in the house, going through the motions each day without any feeling behind it.
He'd resigned himself to eternal loneliness, which made it all the more confusing when there was a knock at his door late one night.
Confused, he got up and answered. Worst case scenario, some crazy person had come to kill him. It wouldn't be the end of the world if it was.
However, instead of being greeted with the barrel of a gun, he found himself face-to-face with Velma Kelly.
The two had never spoken directly, but he remembered her from the trial and was fully aware of her act with Roxie. Still, even though the two weren't strangers, he couldn't fathom why she was at his doorstep.
"Velma" he greeted with a weak smile. "Can I help you with something?"
"I wanted to check on you"
"You wanted to check on me?" he asked, bewildered, getting a chuckle in response.
"Your Roxie's ex-husband, no?"
"Yeah" he confirmed. "What about it?"
"I feel a little bit of sympathy for you, if you would believe it" Velma shrugged. "Are you gonna let me in or what?"
"Oh, uh, of course, Ms. Kelly" he nodded awkwardly, opening the door to allow her inside. She looked around the apartment briefly, noting how tidy it was. With how much Roxie complained about the man, she was expecting something to be off about it but, no. Perfectly normal apartment.
"You know, Roxie is a bitch" Velma sighed, sitting on the couch. Amos frowned.
"That's not very nice"
"Amos- Can I call ya Amos?" A happy nod. "Amos, I don't typically care for men" she started. "A lot of 'em are dicks, which is why ya got so many women in jail for shooting 'em" she continued. "However, you are a special case. Roxie really fucked you over"
"She didn't-"
"She cheated on you, tried to pin the murder of the other guy on you, put you in debt to get a lawyer, lied about having a baby, and then left you" she told him flatly. "No matter how ya slice it, that was a dick move. It's not so crazy that I feel a little bad for ya"
"Thank you, Ms. Kelly"
"Mm" Velma hummed. "Ya got coffee?"
"I do, yes"
"I'm gonna make you some coffee and we're gonna talk for a bit" she told him, standing up and making her way to his kitchen. "You look like you could use a friend?"
"Why are you being so nice to me?"
"Cause I hate Roxie and me befriending her ex-husband that she hates is sure to piss her off" she answered honestly. "Besides, I could also use a friend"
"Alright, Ms. Kelly" Amos replied, a genuine smile coming to his face for the first time in a while. "It's appreciated"
"Yeah, yeah"
